Statement of institutional status

The International Accreditation Center, Inc. (IAC) is an accreditation body incorporated as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in the District of Columbia, United States. IAC accredits conformity assessment bodies — including testing laboratories, calibration laboratories, and inspection bodies — within defined scopes through impartial evaluation and public verification.

IAC operates in accordance with ISO/IEC 17011:2017 (Conformity assessment — Requirements for accreditation bodies accrediting conformity assessment bodies). Accreditation status and scope for all accredited bodies are publicly verifiable through the IAC Directory.

Accreditation decisions are made by a structurally independent Accreditation Committee that is separate from the assessment function, in accordance with ISO/IEC 17011 § 7.6.

Permitted claims

The following statements may be used by IAC, accredited bodies, and third parties when referencing IAC's institutional status:

  • "IAC is an accreditation body operating in accordance with ISO/IEC 17011."
  • "IAC accredits conformity assessment bodies within defined scopes."
  • "Accreditation status is publicly verifiable in the IAC Directory at accreditationcenter.org/directory/."
  • "Accreditation decisions are independent from the evaluation function."

Not permitted

The following types of claims are not authorized and should not be made by any party:

  • Claims that IAC certifies end organizations, products, or management systems.
  • Claims of mutual recognition with other accreditation bodies without published, signed agreements.
  • Claims of government endorsement, regulatory mandate, or international equivalence without formal evidence cited on this page.
  • Use of third-party marks (e.g., ILAC, IAF, government seals) as endorsements without written authorization from the mark owner.

Recognition and agreements

As of the effective date of this statement, IAC has not yet entered into any mutual recognition arrangements (MRAs) or multilateral recognition agreements (MLAs) with international or regional cooperation bodies. This section will be updated as formal agreements are executed.
