Verification Guide

How to verify accreditation

The IAC Directory is the sole authoritative source for accreditation status and scope. Before contracting or accepting test reports, calibration certificates, or inspection results, verify the body's current status using the steps below.

Step-by-step verification

1. Search Navigate to the Directory. Enter the organization name, trade name, or IAC ID (e.g., IAC-AB-000123) in the search bar.
2. Open record Click the organization card to view its full profile, including status badge, accreditation dates, and contact details.
3. Verify status Confirm the status badge reads Active. If it shows Suspended or Withdrawn, the body may not claim accreditation for the affected scope.
4. Check scope Review the scope summary and detailed activities. Ensure the service you need (specific test methods, calibration parameters, or inspection categories) is within the listed scope.
5. Confirm dates Verify the accreditation effective date and expiry. An expired entry is equivalent to a withdrawn status.
6. Download scope Use the "Download scope" link to obtain the official scope statement PDF for your procurement records.

What to look for

  • Status badge: Active (green), Suspended (yellow), Withdrawn (red).
  • Scope summary: High-level description of accredited activities.
  • Detailed scope: Specific methods, parameters, ranges, or inspection categories.
  • Effective & expiry dates: The period during which accreditation is valid.
  • Last updated: When IAC last reviewed or modified the entry.
  • Public scope PDF: The downloadable, versioned scope statement.

Common verification mistakes

  • Accepting a verbal claim of accreditation without checking the Directory.
  • Assuming accreditation covers all services — always check the specific scope.
  • Relying on an old scope PDF instead of the current Directory entry.
  • Confusing "accreditation" (of the conformity assessment body) with "certification" (of a product or management system).

Frequently asked questions

Can I rely on a logo on a test report instead of checking the Directory?

No. The Directory is the only authoritative source. Logos can be outdated or misused. Always verify current status and scope online before making decisions based on accredited results.

What if an organization is not in the Directory?

If an organization does not appear in the IAC Directory, it is not accredited by IAC. If the organization claims IAC accreditation but cannot be found, please report it as potential misuse.

How often is the Directory updated?

The Directory is updated in real time whenever an accreditation decision is made, a scope is modified, or a status changes. There is no batch update delay.
