Emissions information and environmental claims
Climate credibility and transition
Decisions and public statements need reliable environmental information and precise claims.
Questions for decision-makers
- Is it an inventory, a footprint or a target?Inventories, product footprints, reductions, offsets and net-zero targets are different things.
- Which period and boundary apply?A claim is meaningful only for its stated period, boundary and method.
- Who verified the information?Verification needs a defined programme, level of assurance and competent verifier.
- Is neutrality claimed?Carbon neutrality claims follow specific requirements and cannot be inferred from an inventory.
Limits that matter
These concepts are not interchangeable. IAC explains the distinctions; it does not verify environmental claims at present.
