Continuity, dependencies and essential sectors

Critical infrastructure and resilience

An interruption in energy, water, transport, telecommunications or data centres can affect communities and economic chains far beyond the operator.

Questions for decision-makers

  • Which dependencies are critical?Identify upstream services and suppliers without which operations stop.
  • How long can a service be interrupted?Tolerances and recovery objectives should be explicit.
  • Who inspects physical assets?Physical inspections require sector-specific criteria and specialists.
  • What does a management certificate cover?A management system certificate does not guarantee overall safety of an installation.

Limits that matter

IAC does not publish maps of vulnerabilities or sensitive operational details. Content in this area explains criteria and questions, not the condition of any specific facility.
